World of Warcraft - Feral Druid Gear Lists
These lists are pretty much obsolete. I'm still working on the next update, but you can check out what it all currently looks like at this address:
WotLK Beta Gear Lists
This site lists four different gear lists for Feral Druids in the game of World of Warcraft:
If you want to tailor the stat weights and get dynamic lists, check out LootRank. The following templates give default values based on the high-gear lists:
The purpose of the lists is to give a quick reference to approximate value of various items available to Feral Druids.
This list is not gospel! It has several sources of inaccuracy that you must take into account when actually selecting gear for your character:
- The list values are calculated using a mathematical model (i.e. _not_ a simulation) of the Feral combat. This model tries to do as good a job as it can, but it always has limitations compared to real-game situations. Cat DPS values use the best sustained DPS cycle (Mangle, Shreds to 5 combo points, then Rip). Bear DPS calculations assume quite unlimited Rage. Mitigation values use the in-game formulas for calculation of mitigation and avoidance.
- As of May 2008, the lists are using two-roll resolution to determine the outcome of special attacks and finishers.
- The values from the model are dependent on the used base attributes, and the further away your character is from them, the larger is the potential error. However, experiments in changing the base attributes have shown that the effects are quite small and the relative order of the items is quite unchanged, except in the extremes. The used base attributes are shown in the "Info" page for each list.
- Both Bear and Cat mitigation lists assume that no healing is available. This emphasizes the value of Stamina as it makes you last longer. However, there is no meaningful way of representing healing, so it is better to have a clear understandable model (that you can then easily compare against) than a complicated one. However, until you have enough Stamina, the value is appropriate as it represents the buffer Health gives you against damage spikes.
- The lists assume that you have most of the key DPS or tanking talents. Blessing of Kings is assumed only on high-gear lists.
- The high-gear mitigation list assumes that you are crit immune. There are also other caps (either hard or soft) that affect gear selection. You have to take those into account.
- Set bonuses are not included in any of the items. Some set bonuses (like the Malorne [Tier 4] 2-piece bonus) are very good and make those items significantly more valuable in practice than in the lists. However, there is no meaningful way to represent the value on individual items, so it's up to you to factor them in.
Other comments regarding the lists and their use:
- In the item stats, red color implies DPS stats, green is for mitigation stats, blue for caster stats and purple for resistances.
- Socketed items have a base value that indicates the value of the item when unsocketed. The list uses two strategies for socketing - color (including the socket bonus) and best available. The better of the two is used in the item lists. If the sockets and the socket bonus are overstricken, then the "best gems" strategy has been used and the used gems are shown after the actual socket colors.
- The list uses best available rare gems in the socket values. The selected gems are shown in the "Info" page for each list.
- You can download a zip file of the lists for your local use here. Just unzip it to a folder of your choice and double-click on any file.
- The "Enchants" pages on each list are courtesy of AmadisAnguiano from the Forums. Thanks for your help.
Discussion of the lists, Feral gear and modeling them can be found from http://www.emmerald.net/forum/.
If you find missing items or erroneous item information, please post to this thread in the above Forums. Before reporting, please check if the issue has already been reported. However, reporting something twice is better than not reporting something at all.
I would like to send special thanks to the crew at Wowhead for their help in getting the item data sorted out!
Yours Sincerely,
Emmerald
