Seeing it has been sticky I have gone through and updated a few typos that were picked up over at Elitist Jerks as well as changing the hit% required for bosses to 8% as recent tests have shown.

I will try to keep this updated, but the main thread will be at EJ and is linked in my sig.

Thanks! Could you please put the link early in the post itself? Would make the reference clearer.

I've been trying to understand all this numbers.
I mean, I understand them, what I'm trying to do is something which given my stats (or base stats + equip stats) will be able to correctly calculate my combat values.  Up to now, I have failed Smiley  Someone has the formulae written out which specify how to compute the different values (average damage, dodge %, etc. etc.) starting from the base stats?
I've had a look at Toskks calculator (bear tanking only for now) and while I think I understand most of it (DR on dodge being the part I don't understand), what worries me is that even there, when I type in my stats, the calculated value for dodge% does not match what I see in WoW.
So the questions:
- what to we see in WoW?  When it says 35% dodge, it's "you dodge 35% of attacks from a same-level mob" or DR is not yet factored in? Stat values seem to match exactly the current stats (i.e. with all modifiers in place).
- how is damage calculated (mean, variance) from the base stats?

I searched around but for some reason there doesn't seem to be one nice page which explains EVERYTHING, wowwiki has nice stuff on the hit roll tables, this thread has the effect of stats on combat values but no explanation on how to compute them.  Also, I don't understand how you can write +x agi = +y dodge when DR is in place.

In short, all help is welcome Smiley

If you're looking for some numerical ranking of stats, Rawr does that for you.  It considers some of the more complex things like diminishing returns on avoidance, raid buffs, etc.

If you're looking for some of the general game mechanics, the EJ forums have several different threads on the different aspects of what people have tested and verified to be correct.  You can start with their Combat Ratings (level 80) thread.

I'd like to write my own combat simulator, starting from base stats+eq list only.  Gear ranking or stat ranking will be a consequence, but it's not my aim.  I'm more interested in modeling.

Thanks for the link, I had found some of the other threads linked from there, but that one is a very useful starting point, at least for the whole agi/dodge thing, which iw the part for which I had less data.

can you confirm for me the hit rating listed here.. is that for ALL forms or just cat or boomkin?

Hit Rating
1 HitRating = 0.030% Hit
32.79 HitRating = 1% Hit

Cap vs Level 80 mob = 5% Hit = 163.95 HitRating
Cap vs Level 81 mob = 5.5% Hit = 180.34 HitRating
Cap vs Level 82 mob = 6% Hit = 196.74 HitRating
Cap vs Level 83 mob = 8% Hit = 262.32 HitRating (Raid Bosses)

I am finding more and more gear with expertise or crit.. cince we started beeing lumped together with rogues.. and i am finding that top end gear with hit is getting harder to find.
so what is the target hit for
bear
cat
boomkin
resto.

or are they ALL classed the same?

this wil also help with a bit of a flare up regarding a certain loot drop

The hit cap depends only on level difference, not on class or shapeshift form.  That means that you need 8% hit in every form in order to remove misses.

That is only for 2H melee. 8%
2x 1H (not possible for Druids) is 27%
Spellhit is still 17% without talents.

Could you update the armor section when you have a chance?  Might not be worth updating until after 3.1 where they are changing it again though.

I am seeing reports that AGI > STR for cat - what is being changed in 3.1 that this is the case?

Cheers

First, Savage Roar is being changed from +40% AP to +30% damage (+36% with the glyph), so our effective AP from strength is dropping from 3.2648 to 2.37864.  Secondly, we're getting a new talent called Primal Gore that allows our bleeds to crit, so now every attack we have can crit, which raises the value of agility and crit rating.

I would just like a small confirmation on the dodge figures we need to aim for in bear and cat.
for a bear tanking in uldar.. in MT and OT  what is the total dodge % we need? before and after diminshing returns
same for cat.
as our stats are always bouncing around with this nurf/that buff.. it is hard to keep track of all of them. Wink

I am at 37% in the Char window in my Ulduar Tanking gear that is my S3D stuff before. I run it as Progression gear now. See my signature for details.
